Internships at Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations in Geneva

The Mission offers a year-round rolling internship programme, enabling eligible candidates to join in any given month including the summer vacations (preferably for a minimum period of three months).
Interested candidates may apply by filling out the application form and attach necessary documentation including a cover note.
Please ensure that the application form is complete in all respects. Incomplete application forms will not be entertained.
Purpose
The internship program is designed in way that is mutually beneficial for the Mission and the prospective interns. The nature of work is diverse and demanding, requiring clear thinking, flexibility and good communication skills.
The internship allows you to take a closer look at multilateral diplomacy in action as well as familiarization with important aspects of Pakistan’s foreign policy. It offers you opportunities to explore career paths in diplomacy, Foreign Service, public policy, international law, international organizations and beyond.
Areas for internship
We have limited internship opportunities for enrolled undergraduates and graduate students. These opportunities are also open to fresh and university graduates exploring career options.
Currently, the Mission is considering internships in these thematic areas under the guidance of officers: Human rights, humanitarian affairs, arms control, sustainable development, climate change and environmental issues, health, migration, refugees, trade and development and intellectual property issues.
Requirements
We are looking for individuals who possess oral, written, communication, organizational skills, knowledge, leadership abilities are self-motivated and demonstrate capability to work independently and under pressure with limited guidance.
An online application should be accompanied by a Cover Note, which may not exceed 1000 letters. Please include the following details in the Note:
- Explanation of your interest in the internship; why you are the most suitable candidate: Please provide some examples of how you have used your skills (written, oral, organizational or communication) for a successful outcome previously.
- Please indicate your preferred area(s) of work at the Mission List three areas of interest in order of priority (from areas indicated above).
- Degree/Diploma Programme (what are you currently studying or what have you studied?)
- Graduation date (when will you graduate or when did you graduate from the programme?)Knowledge of languages other than English.
- Level of IT skills and programmes that you are proficient in.Please attach two letters of reference from your college or university.

The interns are expected to:
Attend, take notes and summarize record of meetings. Carry out research and analytical work under supervision of the relevant officer.Assist in drafting and preparing documents, statements.Monitor media and analyse current events of relevance to the area of work
Who is eligible?
This internship is offered to Pakistani nationals, Swiss/EU country citizens of Pakistani origin- Senior High School, College and University students residing in Switzerland. (The Mission does not seek internships from Pakistani students residing or studying either in Pakistan or any other country due to administrative and visa issues).

Visas
nterns are responsible for obtaining the necessary visas. As per policy, the Mission does not facilitate issuance of visa(s) for internships for applicants who are in a country other than Switzerland.
A valid visa/resident permit holder is acceptable for internship with this Mission and registration with UN Protocol. Under Swiss and UN regulations, transit visa holders are not eligible for internships with any Missions accredited to the United Nations in Geneva.
Duration
The normal duration of an internship is from three to a maximum of six months. As a general principle, the Mission does not solicit internships that are less than two months. All internships must be for a minimum twenty (20) hours per week.
Interview
After an initial review, the Mission calls in the short-listed candidates for interviews.
Remuneration
The internship is offered on an honorary /No remuneration basis. All costs related to travel, medical insurance, accommodation, and living expenses are to be borne by the interns.
Academic Credits
You may be eligible for academic credit from your educational institution for the internship. Please check with your college/university.
Conduct
The Mission expects high standards of professional and ethical conduct.
Formal acceptance and notification
As the Mission has limited number of internship opportunities, these are accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis and a final decision on acceptance is based on review of applications, personal interviews and requirements of the Mission at a given time.
Selected candidates are notified through emails. The Mission maintains a roster of applicants including those who are not able to make it at a given time frame. These candidates may be contacted by the Mission at a later stage.

Documentation requirements
Once your internship has been accepted, you would be required to provide copies of the following documents to the Mission. Incomplete applications forms will not be entertained:
- 1. A passport size photograph may be attached with the online application.Valid Pakistani Passport with valid visas as indicated above.
- 2. Valid Pakistani Passport with valid visas as indicated above.
- 3. Valid Swiss/EU country passport or with Pakistani Passport (in case of dual nationality) or National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP). In case you don’t have a Pakistani Passport or NICOP, a copy of your parents Pakistani Passport or NICOP may be provided to ascertain your Pakistani heritage.
- 4. In case you are on a student visa, a letter of enrollment from college may be submitted along with clear indication of graduation date.
