OIC In Geneva

Geneva hosts the UN Human Rights machinery as well as several humanitarian organizations.
Even though human rights and humanitarian issues are governed by separate legal instruments and are deliberated in distinct bodies/institutions, these subjects however often overlap.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is an important intergovernmental organization comprising 57 States. The OIC actively engages with the human rights machinery based in Geneva.
Pakistan Mission acts as OIC coordinator on human rights and humanitarian issues. In this capacity, this Mission closely works with, consults and delivers statements on behalf of the OIC at the Human Rights Council (HRC). In addition, the Mission coordinates and liaises with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Permanent Observer Mission of OIC in Geneva, other mechanisms of the Human Rights Council, civil society organizations as well as humanitarian organizations, on issues of importance to OIC and its member states.
As OIC’s Coordinator, Pakistan Mission shares the perspective of OIC member states on various human rights themes and subjects at the HRC. It also represents the Group in negotiations on draft resolutions that are considered and adopted at the HRC.
